Sampson's work appeals to not only children and adults alike, but all levels of art appreciation; his paintings are truly for everyone. His narratives are enigmatic and encourages the viewer to look closer and engage. The work has a wonderful sense of familiarity recalling European masters, but also has an unexpected twist. His open ended paintings allow the viewer to continue to enjoy the work over time. At age 83, he is still in his studio daily painting new work! He is truly a master!
